Altha's lifters clenched their third team state runner up title last Saturday at the FHSAA Girls 1A Weightlifting championship held in Lakeland! In the first flight of the day,  Paige Stone (139 lb class) made the medals platform as state champion in Traditional and 3rd in Olympic. Paige has put in a lot of hours in the weightroom, and her determination and ability to rebound from a controversial call last year, costing her a state title, set the stage for her to be victorious in her junior year. Anna Hand (110 lb class) also medaled in 3rd in Tradirional, finishing her senior year with an exciting end to the commitment she has shown this season in the weightoom.  In the afternoon, Paige Tice (183 lb weight class) finished strong as a 4th place medalist in  Traditional with the highest  bench press in her weight class. Christy Jones (UNL)  concluded her high school weightlifting career and third State appearance by earning a 4th place medal in Traditional. Her last lift helped seal the team runner-up title! Christy has been a consistent lifter and she and Anna will be missed by our team next year!  The team effort was rewarded with their state runner up title.  Previously the girls team finished second in the state in 2021, with the boys team finishing as state runner up in 2007.   Coach Robbie Smith is proud to see his lifters' hard work pay off and the seniors go out with medalsl. It will be a great memory they will have the rest of their lives!
